Difference between Fiber Jump and Fiber Tail and Detection Method

Optical fiber jumper is used to make jump connection from equipment to optical fiber wiring link. It has a thick protective layer, which is usually used in the connection between optical terminals and terminal boxes.


Pigtail fiber is also called pigtail wire, only one end has a connecting end, and the other end is a broken end of the fiber core of the optical cable. It is connected with other fiber core by fusing. It often appears in the optical fiber terminal box and is used to connect the optical cable with the optical transceiver (coupler, jumper, etc.).


Fiber optic connector is a device for detachable (movable) connection between optical fibers and fibers. It precisely joins the two ends of the optical fibers so that the light energy output from the transmitting optical fibers can be coupled to the receiving optical fibers to the greatest extent, and the impact on the system caused by its involvement in the optical link can be minimized. This is the basic requirement of the fiber optic connector. To some extent, optical fiber connectors also affect the reliability and performance of optical transmission system.


How to Test the Qualification of Optical Fiber Jump


With the Plug-Back loss meter, the jumper is measured with a light-passing pen to determine whether the optical fiber is uninterrupted or not. The general indicators of telecommunication level test are insertion loss less than 0.3dB and echo loss greater than 45dB.
